A delivery driver in New Jersey narrowly avoided contact with a whopping dose of nature’s electricity.

The man, who appears to work for a food delivery service, was almost struck by a lightning bolt while he was delivering food to a home in Wayne, a township in Passaic County, on July 14.

“We ordered food, and when the delivery driver came to the door, lightning struck,” Lisa Lowe, the homeowner who caught the moment on video, told Storyful.

A man appeared to be okay after a bolt of lightning was seen nearly striking him outside a home in Wayne, New Jersey.

The death-defying experience, captured through a doorbell cam, shows the driver making his way up the driveway and ringing the doorbell a couple of times before the bolt hits, only a few inches from his frame. He is heard letting out a yelp and seen crouching down moments before the homeowners get to the door.

“I thought that was … I thought that was going to hit me,” the driver can be heard telling the couple. The delivery driver did not show signs of an injury, telling the couple he was OK before walking back to his vehicle.

What are the odds of being struck by lightning?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are less than one in a million, and almost 90% of all lightning strike victims survive.

Participating in outdoor recreational activities or working outside are some factors that can put you at greater risk of being struck. Regional and seasonal differences can also affect your risk of being struck by lightning, the CDC said.
