British Open Round 3 live updates, leaderboard: Can Scottie Scheffler run away on Moving Day at Royal Portrush?

It’s Saturday at Royal Portrush, and there’s a familiar face atop the leaderboard at the British Open.

Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler fired a near-perfect 64 on Friday to grab the solo lead at the final major championship of the season. He was actually just a few inches away from a birdie at the last that would have matched the course record in Northern Ireland, too.

Scheffler has already won three times on the PGA Tour this season, including at the PGA Championship in May. A win this week would give him his fourth major championship title, and move him just a U.S. Open win away from the career grand slam.

But, with 54 holes left, the Claret Jug is still very much up for grabs. Scheffler is paired up with Matt Fitzpatrick, who held a share of the lead after Thursday and then backed that up with a 5-under 66 on Friday. He’s starting just a shot back from Scheffler. Brian Harman and Haotong Li are tied at 8-under to start the day, too.

Sure, Scheffler flew up to the top of the leaderboard on Friday night. But if someone is going to catch him, they’ll want to take full advantage of Moving Day early. Otherwise, like he has plenty of times in the past, Scheffler could very well run away with this thing.

Scheffler and Fitzpatrick will tee off at 10:35 a.m. ET on Saturday. For full tee times, click here.
