NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A mass shooting in Tennessee has claimed the life of Corey Adams, a former Edna Karr High School football standout, according to reports.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Adams, 18, was killed late Saturday night (July 19) in a shooting that left four other men wounded. The shooting took place around 10:14 p.m. outside a residence on Fern Glade Cove in Cordova — an eastern suburb of Memphis — the agency said.
Deputies said they stopped a vehicle and found a male gunshot victim inside. They “provided life-saving measures until Shelby County Fire arrived,” but the victim — later identified as Adams — died at the scene.
Authorities said four other adult males later arrived in private vehicles to seek hospital treatment for gunshot wounds. None of the other shooting victims’ injuries were considered critical, the sheriff’s office said.

Adams, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound edge rusher, died weeks before he was expected to play his freshman football season for Ole Miss., wrote sports reporter Billy Embody, who covers the University of Mississippi for the website on3.com.
“Just horrible, horrible news,” Embody posted on X.com. “Corey had so much life ahead of him.”
Embody wrote that Adams was ranked as the No. 21 prep football recruit out of Louisiana and the 57th-ranked edge defender in the national 2025 recruiting class. Adams committed to Ole Miss over offers from LSU, TCU and USC, the report said.
National recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman also posted condolences on X, saying he was “without words this morning. … Thoughts and prayers with the Adams family and Karr Cougars community. I was lucky enough to cover Corey the last few years and was so excited to see him in Oxford. Gone way too soon.”
The Ole Miss football program has not yet issued a statement on Adams’ reported death.
No arrests in connection to the shooting have been reported. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the homicide investigation is in its early stages and ongoing.
