Alabama football held its first ReliaQuest Bowl practice in Tampa on Friday at Berkeley Preparatory School.
The Crimson Tide is preparing for a matchup against Michigan on Tuesday at 11 a.m. CT at Raymond James Stadium.
Reporters had a chance to view a brief portion of practice Friday, which mainly included individual drills.
Here are some of the things we noticed during the media viewing period.
Alabama football practice observations
— Starting left tackle Kadyn Proctor did not participate in any of the offensive line drills. He spent most of the media viewing period on an exercise bike in another part of the field.
— Jaylen Mbakwe wore a different number from the No. 9 he wore all season. He was No. 6 in practice and wearing a white jersey, which is what offensive players wore. Mbakwe worked with the wide receivers during the media viewing period. For him to be on offense, he had to wear a different number because running back Richard Young wears No. 9.
— Jalen Hale was working with the receivers but wearing a brace on his left knee and a black jersey. He has missed the entire season with an injury he sustained in the spring.
— Safety Malachi Moore was in a t-shirt and shorts walking around during practice. He recently had surgery and won’t play in the game.
— Que Robinson, who sustained a season-ending injury during the LSU game, was getting some light work in on the track around the field. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts as well as he completed some exercises with a staffer.
— Reporters did not see any 11-on-11 football, with the observation periods mostly including individual and position group drills.
— Running backs worked with position coach Robert Gillespie on what looked to be fumble drills, featuring footballs attached to straps that staffers yanked on to try and remove from players’ grasps.
— The practice playlist included AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” Wolfmother’s “Joker and The Thief” and Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold.”
— The weather in Tampa was 75 degrees and mostly sunny at practice time.
