Columbus Crew record draw vs Seattle Sounders: Replay

The Crew recorded a 1-1 draw on the road against the Seattle Sounders on July 6.

All the scoring occurred in the first half, with the Crew striking first off a goal from forward Diego Rossi in the 27th minute. Rossi was sent a cross pass from forward Ibrahim Aliyu with Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei slightly out of position, giving Rossi space to score near the right goalpost.

With time nearing an end in the first half, Seattle evened the score when midfielder Paul Rothrock scored off a pass from Kalani Kossa-Rienzi.

The Crew and Seattle combined for eight shots in the second half, but none found the back of the goal despite Columbus having one extra player for the final five minutes of play.

Two minutes into second-half stoppage time mark, Kossa-Rienzi was given his second yellow card for fouling forward Aziel Jackson, resulting in his ejection from the game.

The game was called when Frei suffered a head injury during a Crew free-kick play. Frei was taken off the field in an ambulance for further medical attention.

Columbus’ three-game winning streak was snapped with the draw, and will go back on the road to face FC Cincinnati on July 12.

Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei went down after taking a hit in the head during a Crew free kick opportunity, and immediately needed medical attention. An ambulance was needed to transport Frei off the field and to the hospital.

With stoppage time nearing an end before the Frei went down, both coaches agreed to call the game despite the Crew still having a corner kick.
