Five takeaways from Michigan State football’s 2025 recruiting class

In the modern era of college football, Michigan State football has always at been a program built on 3 and 4-star players who they were able to coach up and develop into a disciplined and effective group, even producing a lot of NFL talent out of players who may have never been seen as top prospects.

In the last coaching regime, we saw a shift in that philosophy, where Mel Tucker and his staff looked to build MSU into a program that looked more like an SEC team with a lot of size, speed, and high-ranked prospects. Until revenue sharing becomes a thing, that is going to be a tough way to build a program in East Lansing, so close to NIL powerhouses like Michigan and Ohio State.

The 2025 class is a return to the Mark Dantonio days of MSU, with most of the players being 3-star ‘diamonds in the rough’. I think this is the right approach for this program, for now.
