The Villanova Wildcats had a stunning 2024 season and recorded their second consecutive with 10 wins. They outscored their opponents by a combined 60 points over 14 games and went on to compete through the second round of the FCS Playoffs.
However, two defensive stars that helped the Wildcats to the playoffs won’t be making a return. Cornerback Isas Waxter and linebacker Brandon Bell took home a multitude of honors after their final, fifth-year seasons, including Stats Perform FCS All-America Team selections and CAA Football First Team Defense accolades.
Waxter totaled 33 tackles, forced three fumbles and made two pass breakups, while Bell led the team with 126 tackles on the season and 16 tackles for loss, alongside three sacks, one interception returned for a touchdown, and three fumble recoveries.
While the updated roster has yet to be announced, rising senior linebacker Shane Hartzell could be the one to replace Bell and build up a suitable defense to take the Wildcats to the playoffs once more. Hartzell notched 121 tackles and a team-high five sacks last season.
