A pizza delivery driver allegedly stabbed a pregnant woman multiple times at a Florida motel following a dispute over a tip, authorities said Wednesday.
Brianna Alvelo, 22, was charged with stabbing the woman in her motel room on Sunday in Kissimmee, a city just south of Orlando, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. The attack occurred after the victim ordered a pizza from a local restaurant earlier in the evening.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a home invasion and a stabbing at the Riviera Motel. After arriving at the scene, deputies discovered the victim with multiple stab wounds. Further investigation revealed that Alvelo attacked the woman shortly after she delivered a pizza and “became upset about the tip she had received,” according to the sheriff’s office.
She returned to the victim’s motel room armed with a knife and accompanied by an unknown male suspect with a firearm. They forced their way into the motel room and began attacking the victim, the sheriff’s office said. The victim was stabbed multiple times and some items were also taken from the room.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office.
Reports: Victim was stabbed after tipping $2
The victim, along with her boyfriend and her 5-year-old daughter, were staying at the motel to celebrate a birthday, according to court documents obtained by local television stations WESH 2 and Fox 35. The incident occurred late Sunday after they ordered a pizza from a nearby Marco’s Pizza.
When Alvelo delivered the pizza, which cost about $33, the victim gave a $50 bill and asked for change, according to WESH 2 and Fox 35. Court documents said Alvelo told the victim that she did not have change, so the victim searched her wallet and vehicle for smaller bills.
The victim then allegedly only gave Alvelo a $2 tip, prompting Alvelo to roll her eyes and walk away, WESH 2 reported. Alvelo later returned with a man, both wearing face masks, and forced themselves into the motel room with a gun.
The two told the victim’s boyfriend to go into the bathroom before they rummaged through the victim’s belongings, according to Fox 35. The victim tried to shield her daughter from the suspects when Alvelo allegedly stabbed her.
The victim was stabbed 14 times, WESH 2 and Fox 35 reported. She later discovered she was pregnant while receiving treatment for her wounds at the hospital.
Alvelo arrested, charged with attempted murder
Detectives arrested Alvelo on Monday, the sheriff’s office said. The man who was allegedly with Alvelo during the attack has not yet been identified.
Alvelo is facing charges of attempted murder, home invasion with a firearm, kidnapping and aggravated assault, according to a charging affidavit obtained by USA TODAY. Online inmate records showed that Alvelo is being held at the Osceola County Jail on a $55,000 bond and does not have an attorney listed for her.
“This was an isolated incident at this address, and the matter remains under investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
