BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Although a storm delay briefly forced Birmingham Bowl fans to take cover, it was not all gloom, especially for small businesses near the stadium.
The fryer was hot and so were the sales at Eugene’s Hot Chicken in Uptown on Friday.
“It’s been kind of steady but today was the big kaboom man,” said general manager Terrell Williamson. “We had a lot of people from both teams come and support man.”
Williamson said it is crucial the Magic City continues to prioritize these big games.
He hopes the Birmingham Bowl doubles or triples profits, something that would be beneficial especially for a small business this time of year.
“As the seasons get tighter and tighter man, people are going out buying Christmas gifts, things of that sort, there isn’t any kind of wiggle room for food for fast food or fast causal food,” said Williamson. “So, with things like this it really helps us out tremendously.”
The good news is he added that people were been coming in nonstop since they opened.
Last year, Troy and Duke went head-to-head, neither are a part of the Southeastern Conference. With the SEC back in town through Vanderbilt, Williamson has noticed more and more hungry fans.
“Those teams kind of travel a lot better than Troy or anybody else would,” he shared. “Between Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech, we had a lot of fans come out today. (Friday)”
