SAN ANTONIO – Head coach Frank Scelfo, defensive lineman Kaleb Proctor and tight end Cade Collier will represent the Southeastern Louisiana University football program at the 2025 Southland Conference Football Opening Drive Monday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Center.
For the second straight year, the SLC’s preseason spotlight event featuring all 10 football-playing institutions will be held in conjunction with the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Coaches School and Convention.
This year’s event, presented by Big Game USA, will air on the Southland Conference’s YouTube page from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Southeastern’s portion of the festivities will be broadcast from 9:15-9:45 a.m.
Scelfo is entering his eighth season at the helm of the Southeastern program and currently ranks second in school history on the career wins list behind legendary coach Stanley Galloway. The two-time Southland Conference Coach of the Year has led SLU to three FCS playoff appearances and five winning seasons. His 44-36 career record includes a 34-18 mark versus league competition.
Proctor enters his senior season as one of the premier defensive players in FCS and a series contender for the Buck Buchanan Award, presented to the nation’s top defensive player. The Oak Grove, Louisiana native earned second team All-Southland honors last fall, finishing with 48 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss from his defensive tackle position.
Collier stepped in a larger offensive role in 2024 and figures to continue to be a primary weapon in the SLU passing game this coming fall. The Mobile, Alabama native caught touchdowns in Southland wins over HCU and East Texas A&M last fall in addition to serving as the team’s long snapper on punts. An excellent student, Collier was named to the SLC All-Academic team a season ago.
Southeastern reports to campus July 28 and will open fall practice July 29. SLU opens the 2025 campaign Aug. 30 with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Louisiana Tech. The Lions open their five-game home schedule Sept. 13, hosting Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
