Tennessee receiver Kaleb Webb intends to enter the transfer portal when it officially opens next week, On3’s Pete Nakos first reported on Thursday afternoon.
Webb spent three years at Tennessee and caught just six passes for 48 yards during the regular season. Playing 99 snaps over seven games, Webb earned a 62.7 PFF grade which was the fourth best amongst Tennessee receivers. His best game of the season came against Chattanooga when he caught two passes for 19 yards.
The 6-foot-3 receiver’s best season came in 2023 when Bru McCoy’s season ending injury elevated his role. Webb caught 16 for 166 yards over the course of the season and had his lone touchdown of the year against UTSA.
But after being a backup in 2023, Webb fell to the third string in his junior year after Chris Brazzell transferred into the program and five-star freshman Mike Matthews signed with the Vols.
More From RTI: SEC Starting Receiver, Nashville Native Announces Plans To Enter Transfer Portal
A former four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting cycle, Webb ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 310 player nationally according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Powder Springs, Georgia native flipped from East Carolina to Tennessee shortly before the early signing period.
Tennessee loses senior receivers Bru McCoy and Dont’e Thornton to graduation this offseason which would have opened up opportunities for Webb to earn an expanded role in his redshirt junior season. But that was far from a certainty so the receiver opted to search for a more certain role elsewhere.
The development of Tennessee’s receiver personnel will be one of the biggest storylines of the offseason. While the Vols have plenty of depth at receiver, they have lacked high end production at the spot. How many current players transfer and how many the Vols look to add in the portal will be telling.
Webb is the third Tennessee player to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal this week, joining offensive lineman Vysen Lang and running back Khalifa Keith.
