Texas football wide receiver Isaiah Bond “continues to make really good progress” as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered in the SEC championship game against Georgia, coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday.

When asked if he expected Bond to play in the Peach Bowl against Arizona State on Jan. 1, Sarkisian did not offer a direct answer.

“Obviously, we’re quite a ways out,” Sarkisian said. “So my goal is, coming out of Christmas here, that he continues to progress in a positive direction, and we can see where it goes from there.”

Isaiah Bond injury: Who steps up if Texas football star can’t play vs. Arizona State in Peach Bowl?

Bond has caught 33 passes for 532 yards and five touchdowns in an injury-plagued season after transferring from Alabama over the offseason.

Appearing in just 12 games, Bond has been hampered by two different ankle injuries. The first saw him leave the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma. He was then limited for the subsequent game against Georgia and sat out Texas’ game at Vanderbilt on Oct. 26.

Freshman Ryan Wingo started in Bond’s stead last week against Clemson. The former five-star recruit has 26 catches for 417 yards and two touchdowns this year.
