7-in-Seven Countdown: Top 2025 SWLA Prep Football Teams

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The Vinton Lions football program took a big step forward last season under head coach Tyler Lavergne after putting together the team’s first winning season in around a decade.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Lions have a chance to reach another level and capture a district title.

“Everybody understands what can be done and what we have the opportunity to do at Vinton High School this season, but at the same time, we have to keep it simple, one week at a time,” said Coach Lavergne. “Obviously, there is a lot of excitement around the community and the school, around the halls.”

This summer, that winning culture has cultivated into one of the best off-seasons the program has ever had.

“Everyone knows what to expect, we have the standard already set coming off of the first winning season in about a decade, everybody’s more excited to get started rolling in August,” said Lavergne. “I think those guys are ready for the challenge, they know what to expect, and I think they’re ready. We had a great offseason, a phenomenal summer, and great attendance this summer.”

With the resurgence of the football program, there has also been a revitalization of the fan base. That support is something this year’s team is very proud of.

“It’s exciting to see the community get back to being excited about football again. We like seeing those stands filled on Friday night,” said Lavergne. “We love all the support from all of our local businesses and all of our parents, we’re blessed to have the support staff, and I’m proud to be able to kind of give that spark back to the football culture over here.”
