Trey Thompson broke out nationally this spring, establishing himself as one of the best players on the Adidas 3SSB circuit and taking his recruitment to the very highest levels as a result. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged nearly 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while shooting 51% from the floor and 39% from three for a Tennessee Impact team that went 6-2 across the two sessions.
As a result, Thompson added over ten new high-major offers from programs including Connecticut, Kansas, Indiana, and Alabama, among others. Most recently, he took official visits to Tennessee, Purdue, and Iowa. Along the way, he not only debuted in the national rankings for the 2026 class, but he shot all the way up to No. 59 overall.
However, Thompson won’t be staying in the 2026 class. On Saturday, Thompson announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes and is expected to reclass and join Iowa right away as a part of the incoming 2025 class. He will finish as the No. 91 overall prospect in 2025.
