Four months’ worth of rain fell in just hours last week in central Texas, causing catastrophic flooding that has claimed the lives of at least 120 people.
At least 150 people were still missing Thursday as searches continued across the region.
When the rain fell, the Guadalupe River rose over 20 feet, sweeping homes, cars, campers and cabins downstream. Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp that sits along the river, confirmed Monday that more than two dozen campers and counselors died in the flooding.
Hundreds of people were rescued, many by helicopter, authorities said. The Trump administration will honor a federal disaster declaration signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to help direct relief to the state, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
