While some schools went back-and-forth with Top247 defensive lineman Carter Gooden‘s fit in the defense, UCLA was steadfast. The Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy standout and Hamilton, Ontario, resident would play on the edge.
Sometimes, he would stand up and rush the quarterback. Other times, he would drop into coverage or play with his hand on the ground while moving along the defensive line.
The Bruins made a move with an early-May official visit and then withstood seven other official visits to land Gooden’s commitment. His discussions with and belief in Bruins defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe is a big reason for his commitment to UCLA. Gooden announced his choice Thursday.
