Looking to build on their 3-8 outing from 2024, the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds are looking to improve in the 2025 season. With quarterback Mario Sanchez returning for his senior season, the Greyhounds’ offense is in good hands.
Not only do the Greyhounds have a solid group of returning players, but they have added a large signing class from both the transfer portal and high school players.
In 2024, Sanchez led the Greyhounds with 583 rushing yards and six touchdowns, 704 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Ja’Calvin Newsom is set to take the starting running back spot from Ron Crater after rushing for 476 yards and three touchdowns in 2024. Crater was the team’s leading offensive player and had 976 yards and 13 touchdowns, leaving big shoes to fill at running back.
The Greyhounds are led by head coach Kelley Lee, who is in the third year of his second tenure as Eastern New Mexico’s head coach. He previously led the program from 2017-2020 and held a 21-12 record during that time, taking the Greyhounds to their first-ever bowl win in 2019.
Now, Lee looks to lead the Greyhounds back into a winning program and has signed a large class, hoping to do so. Eastern New Mexico once led all of Division II in rushing under Lee and now, he’s looking to use Sanchez and his weapons to get back to winning.
