Ohio State football fans have been furious with the NCAA for the last year. They have been dragging their feet when it comes to the investigation into TTUN for their reckless cheating that they were doing for multiple seasons. No punishment has come down yet.
Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti already punished Michigan last season for their crimes, suspending Jim Harbaugh for three games at the end of the 2023 season. That’s the only punishment that TTUN has seen so far for this scandal, but they have had penalties for other violations.
TTUN gave Sherrone Moore a two-game suspension for the 2025 season, but they chose which games he would be suspended for. They decided to suspend him for the first and third games of the year, conveniently allowing him to coach against Oklahoma. According to Petitti, that should be the extent of the penalties.

Fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes should be furious at the fact that Petitti wrote a letter to the NCAA claiming that TTUN should not receive any additional penalties for this scandal. He is clearly acquiescing to pressure from Michigan, which is not what he was hired to do.
Petitti was hired to put the interest of the entire Big Ten at the forefront. It is not in the best interest of the conference to leave TTUN without a proper punishment for cheating against every other team in the league for multiple seasons. That sends the message that every team should try to cheat.
It’s unclear what the punishment is going to be, but it will come down before the season starts. The NCAA has not given an indication of what it might be. It’s still likely going to be something that is unsatisfactory to fans of the Buckeyes. Anything short of a vacated title is going to be disappointing.
That is highly unlikely to happen. The best that Ohio State fans can hope for is long suspensions and some scholarship reductions. That doesn’t help fans who think they cheated in order to win a national title.
