WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Maize High School announced on Tuesday morning that it will offer girls flag football for the 2025 fall season.
Practices are scheduled to start in August, probably at or around the same time the boys football team begins on Aug. 18, and games in September.
Maize did not offer any additional details on the team.
It’s unclear how many Kansas high schools offer flag football. There is no page listed for the sport on the Kansas High School Activities Association website.
A January article in the Dodge City Globe said that the KSHSAA offered girls flag football as a pilot program in 2021, becoming one of the first states to sanction it as a varsity sport. Flag football is also offered in Kansas City public schools.
The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, which includes schools such as Bethel, Ottawa, St. Mary, Southwestern and Kansas Wesleyan, offers flag football, and other Kansas colleges, such as Hesston, Baker and Pratt, also feature the sport.
