Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 22
Jacob Misiorowski – Higher than 6.5 Strikeouts
For our Underdog Fantasy entry today, we’re sticking with the young guns and their strikeouts. Who better to get an entry like that started, but the Miz? After just five starts, he was invited to the All-Star Game and pitched a shutout inning. While some people debated the merits, he was coming off an outstanding outing that made him look every bit the part. His last start saw him hold the mighty Dodgers to just one run over 6.0 innings – striking out 12 in the process. Seattle in 27th in the majors in strikeouts, so he should be able to come close to that mark again here.
Chase Burns – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
Another young gun we’ll ride here is Chase Burns. This will be just his fifth MLB start on Tuesday, but he’s blown by this projection in all but one of his previous four. If you throw out the start against the Red Sox where he failed to get out of the first, he’s averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. He also is coming off his best outing with 10 strikeouts aginst the Rockies. Washington is a bit harder to collect strikeouts on, but six should be a walk in the park for him.
Davis Daniel – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts
Okay, so Davis Daniel is not a young gun – he’s already 28 years old. However, this will just be appearance number 12 and start number eight. He got his first start of the year last week for the ailing Braves, and took it to the Cardinals. In 4.0 innings of work, he fanned five batters and allowed just one run. Now that the Braves are hurting even more and they’ve seen what he has, I expect that they’ll let him get a bit deeper on Tuesday. San Francisco is a below average team in strikeouts as well, which should help things along.
