- Kraft Auctions hosted an auction of movie cars and replicas from a movie memorabilia museum.
- The auction featured several noteworthy replicas and props including models from the Fast & Furious franchise.
Replica cars from iconic movies were recently up for auction following the closure of a movie car museum.
Kraft Auctions accepted bids for several movie and television car replicas, from a Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler to a Knight Rider KITT replica. These full-size replicas are practically carbon copies of memorable vehicles from blockbuster movies and hit TV series.
So how much did these movie cars go for, and would you spend thousands of dollars on a movie car replica?
One bidder paid $90K for a ‘Fast & Furious’ replica car
Fast & Furious is known for its flashy modified cars. The film franchise has millions of fans across the globe, making the vehicles featured in the movies extremely desirable for auto enthusiasts. What if you could own a car from the original The Fast and The Furious film? Kraft Auctions had bidders battle over the next best thing: a replica of the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse that Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) drove in the movie. This is one of the vehicles that paved the way for the franchise.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse replica features all the cosmetics from the movie, including the body kit, rear wing and carbon-fiber hood. The replica also has all the Eclipse’s hood pins, decals and racing bucket seats. It runs, but “needs a new fuel line installed to be drivable”, according to the listing.
The auction featured a total of 463 items that consisted of movie cars, screen-used memorabilia and more. The Mitsubishi Eclipse replica is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to some of the wildest items listed for auction. A screen-used 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, driven by Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto, sold for $90,000. It received 25 bids, making it one of the most desirable movie vehicles in the entire auction.
What film and TV cars were featured in the auction?
Though there are too many movie cars and cars featured on hit television shows to list, there are some standout models. These models played roles in huge franchises and shows that have become pop culture staples for different generations.
Movie and TV cars featured in auction
- Custom Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine 1972 Mitsubishi van (sold for $18,000.00)
- Ghostbusters 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse (sold for $27,000.00)
- Batty Caddy Batmobile 1960 Cadillac custom (sold for $16,000.00)
- Jurassic Park 1994 Ford Explorer (sold for $28,000.00)
- Knight Rider KITT replica 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am (sold for $13,000.00)
- Stranger Things Hawkins Police 1980 Chevrolet K5 Blazer (sold for $17,000.00)
This auction had no shortage of eyebrow-raising replicas and even screen-used vehicles. Some replicas sold for more money than the fair purchase prices of actual used car models.
