The big wave recruiting weekend for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is going as well as expected. On Saturday, Devin Fitzgerald, a 6’2” 205 pound wide receiver from Brophy Prep in Pheonix, Arizona, made his public commitment to Marcus Freeman and the 2026 Notre Dame Football recruiting class.
Devin Fitzgerald, the son of former Pitt Panthers and Arizona Cardinals great Larry Fitzgerald, chose the Irish over a host of other schools from all over the country including the other finalists; Clemson Tigers, Arizona State Sun Devils, Arizona Wildcats, Stanford Cardinal, and UCLA Bruins.

Fitzgerald has made a big jump in his development over the last year and especially this off-season. He has clearly established himself as one of the top players in the region and one of the better receivers nationally as well. Has a strong, athletic frame with big hands and has improved his twitch and athleticism. He’s moving more fluidly, looks more explosive gettign down the field and has more juice in his game from an athletic standpoint. He was always polished in terms of his route running and ball skills, which isn’t surprising when you consider his father Larry Fitzgerald was one of the most technically sound receivers to ever play the game. To see the jump in athleticism has been encouraging and he’s also filling out his frame, pushing 200 pounds now and looks stronger and is playing with a ton of confidence. He’s winning jump ball battles, catching the ball through contact and his game is definitely trending in the right direction right now. A legitimate high major, NFL prospect in his own right and has the tools to be an immediate impact player at the next level as well.
Devin is the 24th commitment for Notre Dame’s 2026 class and he is now part of a major pipeline for Notre Dame from Brophy Prep that includes Benjamin Morrison and Cree Thomas. The Irish are currently ranked #3 nationally in the 247 Team Composite Rankings.

Notre Dame is going ALL in on the wide receiver room, and Fitzgerald is now the 4th WR to commit to this class with a 5th player VERY much expected this month. If you want to — you can also count Joey O’Brien as a WR if you want — because that might actually happen at some point (even if it’s spot duty).

Only one service has Fitzgerald as a 4-Star, but after another productive season in 2025, I will expect that to change. His route-running and hands are elite (which we can expect from the type of quality of gene pool he comes from), and will make up for whatever speed he may lack for the scouts. He’s a plan A guy for the Irish — and we should be really excited for him to be an addition to this class.
