All-Pro Bears CB Jaylon Johnson will miss ‘a few weeks’ with leg injury, per GM Ryan Poles

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson will miss multiple weeks of training camp, at least, with a leg injury sustained during the offseason.

General manager Ryan Poles addressed the All-Pro’s status on Tuesday, days after the team placed Johnson on the non-football injury list. Poles declined to go into detail about the injury. But it will sideline Johnson for “a few weeks.”

“When he was training he had a leg injury,” Poles said, per Bears beat reporter Cassie Carlson. “… Going to take a few weeks before he can come back.”

Johnson, 26, has made the Pro Bowl after each of the last two seasons and was a second-team All-Pro in 2023. The nature of the injury and when and how he sustained it are not clear. Poles made the announcement from the start of Bears training camp.

The stakes in Chicago are high in the second season with 2024 No. 1 pick Caleb Williams at quarterback. The Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus late in 2024 amid a disappointing campaign during Williams’ rookie campaign. The Bears finished in last place in the NFC North at 5-12.

Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson takes over at head coach with high expectations to optimize Williams’ abilities and to turn the Bears into a winner. Johnson is an integral part of Chicago’s defense and hopes for success on that side of the ball.
