Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson was placed on the Non-Football Injury list ahead of training camp, which garnered some concern. With the Bears officially reporting for training camp, we now know what happened and how long he’ll be sidelined.
Bears general manager Ryan Poles told reporters that Johnson suffered a leg injury while training this summer. He will be out for the next few weeks before returning to the practice field.
Poles said the team isn’t “overly concerned” about any long-term issues impacting Johnson’s return.
Johnson has established himself as arguably the best player on the Bears’ roster and one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks. He’s coming off his second consecutive Pro Bowl season, where he totaled career highs in tackles) and tackles for loss (7) while also forcing three turnovers in what was a forgettable and frustrating 2024 season.
With Johnson out for a few weeks, Chicago made a corresponding roster move signing Tre Flowers to the roster. He joins a group featuring Kyler Gordon, Tyrique Stevenson, Terell Smith and rookie Zah Frazier.
