The Milwaukee Bucks are bringing back Antetokounmpo — both Antetokounmpo’s. Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Bucks have agreed to a one-year, $2.9 million deal with Thanasis Antetokounmpo, the brother of Giannis.
Thanasis had spent time with the Bucks from 2019-2024, appearing only sparingly in game action. He averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds per game in limited action. According to Charania, the move also means that Giannis will be staying with the Bucks to start this upcoming season. Previously, he had been the subject of swirling trade rumors given the current state of the Bucks.Â
The Bucks should remain competitive next season
Bucks fans can now take a sigh of relief knowing that their franchise icon will be returning for a 13th season in Milwaukee. Giannis is still one of the top premier players in the NBA, and losing him would have been disastrous to their odds of competing in the Eastern Conference.Â
Last season, Giannis averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game, finishing as an MVP finalist once again, and being named All-NBA First-Team for his efforts. This summer, he has spent the majority of his time with the Greek National Team for the EuroBasket Tournament. After initial reports suggested that any decision on his future with the Bucks would wait until the tournament concluded, it appears that Giannis has made his mind up sooner.
