Chris Paul spurns Lakers with free agency decision

Chris Paul is coming to Los Angeles.

But not the Lakers.

The all-time great point guard will play his 21st (and likely final) NBA season for the Los Angeles Clippers.

ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news Monday morning of CP3’s signing with his former team.

Paul started all 82 games in San Antonio last season, and he should still hold a big role alongside James Harden and Bradley Beal in the Clippers’ backcourt.

CP3 played for the Lob City Clippers from 2011 through 2017.

In those six seasons, he averaged 18.8 points, 9.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

Paul is 40 years old now, and certainly not the player he was then.

But even this past season for the Spurs, Paul averaged 8.8 points, 7.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

It’s not clear whether the Lakers were heavily in the running or not. It’s also not clear whether the Lakers needed another lead ball handler.

But it’s always big news in the competitive West when a star chooses one team over another. And in this case Paul chose L.A., just not the purple and gold.
