Deion Sanders portable toilet on Colorado sideline: Why it’s there

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has been trying to remove the stigma associated with incontinence and bladder issues after having his cancerous bladder removed in May.

He even has discussed the need for a portable toilet on the sideline during games this season.

On Friday, Aug. 29, it became clear he wasn’t joking. A Colorado official confirmed that the black tented box near the 20-yard line is Sanders’ bathroom if he needs to use it during Friday night’s season-opening game against Georgia Tech at Folsom Field.

It is sponsored by Depend, the adult underwear brand with whom Sanders has a partnership.

“I know I got halftime, but can I make it through a game?” Sanders said to former NFL receiver Michael Irvin in an interview in July. “What if there’s a long quarter? OK, so I start thinking I gotta get a Porta Potty for the sideline.”

Sanders, 58, had his bladder replaced by a neobladder made out of his small intestine. It’s smaller than an actual bladder, requiring more frequent urination.

This is Sanders’ third season at Colorado after finishing 9-4 last year and 4-8 in 2023.
