Georgia football O-lineman Jahzare Jackson facing felony drug charge

A Georgia football offensive lineman was arrested on Wednesday, July 16, on three drug-related charges including felony possession or marijuana of more than 1 ounce.

Sophomore Jahzare Jackson was also charged with possession and use of drug-related objects, possession of marijuana less than an ounce and holding or supporting a wireless device with any part of his body. Those three charges are misdemeanors.

Jackson was booked into the Clarke County Jail at 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the jail’s online booking report. He was released on bonds totaling $5,030 at 4:17 a.m. on July 17.

The arresting agency is listed as the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.

Georgia athletics Sunday had yet to provide a comment about the arrest.

The 6-foot-10, 348-pound Jackson played in every game last season, mostly on special teams, but is expected to compete for a top backup spot at tackle this year.

The San Diego native joined the program in the summer of 2024 after focusing on basketball at Overtime Elite in Atlanta.

He was one of five Georgia football players in the past academic year to be named to the SEC’s first-year academic honor roll.

“He has taken strides this year towards getting better,” coach Kirby Smart said at the end of last season. “And as long as he continues to take those strides, the sky is the limit.”
