Golf club hits out at group of thugs after causing damage to popular course – as police are called in over acts so ‘vile’ they were unable to share them

A popular Scottish golf club has hit back at a group of thugs who vandalised its greens and bunkers in a series of ‘vile’ acts.

Dullatur Golf Club in Cumbernauld became the latest course to have been targeted by careless yobs earlier this week.

After finding their way on to the premises, four boys targeted greens and bunkers on the club’s Antonine Course as well as causing damage which Dullatur described as ‘too vile to share’ in a statement.

A picture of the thugs taken by on-lookers shows them in conversation with a golf bag stood up on the green and a club thrown on the floor near the hole.

Dullatur Golf Club say they’ve been left with no choice but to begin marshalling the course in a bid to prevent further incidents.

A statement from the club released on Facebook read: ‘Unfortunately, we had an incident where four boys jumped onto the Antonine course, caused damage to greens and bunkers amongst other things.

‘The “other things” are so vile that we’ve opted not to share them for the moment until the police have had an opportunity to review further.’

They later added: ‘Appreciate all who responded to this. Priority is safety and keeping the course in great condition for members who use it.

‘Thanks to members of the public, we have been given full details of the individuals pictured and these details are now being passed to police for action.

‘Sharing that we are marshalling and keen to make people aware that there is a response to recent events around damage to the course.

‘We will continue to make people aware that marshalling will be taking place, but not always when.’

Dullatur is the latest club to be hit by mindless thugs after a host of other courses in Scotland and across the United Kingdom were targeted.

Just a couple of months ago in Glasgow, Clydebank and District Golf Club saw its greens targeted by yobs in a ‘soul-destroying’ piece of vandalism.

Sharing a video of the damage to Facebook, the club wrote in a caption: ‘Vandalism to our 13th green last night.

‘Annoying and soul destroying for our greens staff who have been working so hard to keep the course in great condition.’

And earlier this year one of the most highly-ranked golf courses in England was destroyed by three reckless vandals who drove quad bikes along its fairways and greens.

The trio, wearing hoods and masks, were filmed by a shocked dog walker in January as they whizzed across fairways and performed doughnut spins on the greens of Thorndon Park Golf Club in Brentwood, Essex.

It was estimated that between £50,000 to £100,000 worth of damage was caused to the course, which is the best ranked club in Essex and featured in the top 100 ranked courses in England.

Shocking footage showed the yobs speeding past a greenside bunker as they turn suddenly on one of the course’s greens, sending chunks of the manicured grass flying into the air.
