A young boy found wandering atop Hersheypark’s monorail track was quickly rescued and reunited with family, according to a statement from the theme park.

The child became separated from his parents and was reported missing at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Aug. 30, according to a statement from Hersheypark spokesperson Quinn Bryner. The child entered a secured area for the monorail, slipping past a chained closure at the entrance and a barricaded turnstile. The monorail was not in operation at the time.

The child was at the closed station roughly 20 minutes before he was discovered walking along the monorail track suspended well above the ground. Video of the incident posted on social media shows park guests shouting at the child from below, with one guest eventually climbing up onto the track to pick up the child.

Bryner confirmed that a guest “quickly noticed and helped guide the child to safety,” and said the boy was reunited with his family at roughly 5:28 p.m., unharmed.

“We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout Hersheypark,” Bryner said.
