Ben Stiller talks new holiday movie ‘Nutcrackers’
Ben Stiller tells USA TODAY’s Marco della Cava what it was like working with kids and animals on his new Hulu movie “Nutcrackers.”
Christmas is fast approaching in just three weeks and with it, a marathon of classic holiday movies and TV shows to maximize the holiday cheer. One such iconic film, “Frosty the Snowman,” will hit the airwaves of NBC this year, marking its first departure from CBS since it premiered 55 years ago.
Based on the song originally sung by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys in 1950, “Frosty the Snowman” tells the story of a snowman who magically comes to life thanks to an enchanted hat, befriending the neighborhood children and embarking on a journey to get to the North Pole before the weather gets too warm, causing him to melt.
In the film, he and one of the local children, Karen, are pursued by a greedy magician hoping to steal the mystical hat from Frosty’s head.
The holiday classic has been re-recorded by countless musical artists, but it was Jimmy Durante’s version of the song, also released in 1950 that became especially popular, even more so after he narrated the 1969 animated movie. Since its premiere, the film has been an annual fixture of the holiday season.
