I value 2nd Amendment, but it’s time to strengthen gun laws

Relying on relatives to report that family member shouldn’t have access to guns is a ridiculous strategy. The pathetic human being who targeted children in Minneapolis shooting is a perfect example.

I think in this day and age the nation has become so politically divided that you can’t have a rational conversation anymore about the dangers of gun violence.

The older generation is set in their ways, that this is the way it always has been, so it should stay this way. They ignore the rising death tolls or find excuses such as the mental health crisis that is clearly also an issue.

The younger generation tends to follow whatever their parents told them was the proper way to handle things. As a father now and Republican voter, whose children are just reaching school age, I believe society needs to change.

Minneapolis shooting shows it’s beyond time for gun restrictions

Yes there is a mental health crisis that needs investigation. Because if it wasn’t guns, people would find other ways to take lives, such as the Bryan Kohberger case or the stabbing death of the 17-year-old girl in Amsterdam.

However, it is beyond time for a stricter implementation of gun restrictions. Relying on relatives to report that a family member shouldn’t have access to a gun is a ridiculous strategy. This coward, wimp, pathetic human being targeting children in the Minneapolis shooting is a perfect example.

Suspended from school for talking about school shootings, family made no attempt to get her to a therapist. A relative noted “dark energy” around the coward, but there was no follow-through on finding out what the energy was.

A policy change to make purchasing a gun more restrictive does not take away Second Amendment rights. Some suggestions would be requiring multiple references who can also be held accountable if something happens with that gun. And background checks that actually require deep digging, not just a quick check of a criminal record. Also, restrictions on the amount of ammunition you can buy and a ban on semi-automatic assault rifles.

There are so many options that can make public spaces safer that are not being utilized. And it can be traced to the political divide that is tearing apart this country.
