Is Costco open or closed on Labor Day? What to know

play

Labor Day is on Monday, Sept. 1, and many national retailers, grocery stores and restaurant chains will remain open. Banks and post offices will be closed, however, as will the stock market.

The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, and by 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday. President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday on June 28, 1894. The holiday celebrates the “social and economic achievements of American workers,” according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Here’s what to know about retail and grocery store chains and whether or not they’ll be open on Labor Day.

Is Costco open on Labor Day?

No. If you need to make a quick, last-minute trip to the store to pick up something on Labor Day, Costco will not be an option for you this year, as the company website says warehouses will be closed on Sept. 1.
