Live updates for Tennessee versus Syracuse football game in Week 1


No. 18 Tennessee is kicking off its 2025 college football season Saturday versus Syracuse. Rankings reflect the US LBM Coaches Poll. The Orange are receiving 16 votes.

The season opener is being contested at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The contest is televised by ABC (noon EDT). Bob Wischusen (play-by-play), Louis Riddick (analyst) and Kris Budden (sideline reporter) are on the call.

Saturday marks the fourth time for the Vols and Orange to face each other. The all-time series dates to 1966. Tennessee is 3-0 in its three previous contests. Saturday’s game is also the third time the schools have opened a season.

Peyton Lewis scored a touchdown on a two-yard rushing attempt with six minutes, two seconds remaining in the first quarter. Max Gilbert converted an extra point attempt.

Max Gilbert converted a 34-yard field goal with 12 minutes, 46 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Corso picked Tennessee to defeat Syracuse during his final show on ESPN “College GameDay.”

Redshirt junior long snapper Bennett Brady, junior linebacker Arion Carter, senior tight end Miles Kitselman and redshirt senior defensive back Andre Turrentine are Tennessee’s game captains against Syracuse.

Former Tennessee linebacker and national champion Al Wilson is serving as a honorary captain for the game. Former Syracuse linebacker Keith Bulluck is also serving as a honorary captain for the Orange.
