Jack Endries was one of the Longhorns few bright spots against Ohio State
Against Ohio State, Longhorns fans got to see a few new faces in burnt orange for the first time. That included tight end Jack Endries, who joined Texas through the transfer portal over the summer. While the offense struggled, Endries was a bright spot against one of the nation’s best defenses.Â
In his Longhorns debut, Endries hauled in four catches for 50 yards. He averaged 12.5 yards per catch and quickly developed chemistry with Arch Manning. The California native was Manning’s favorite target, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards. Endries was the only Longhorn with more than two catches.Â
For the Longhorns, Endries’ performance was an encouraging sign. When Texas added him, they were hoping he would be a significant factor in the passing game. On Saturday, he met expectations and gave a preview of what the rest of the season could hold.Â
Before transferring, the Monte Vista graduate was one of the best tight ends in the nation at Cal. He led the Golden Bears with 623 receiving yards on 56 receptions last year. Due to his play, Endries earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. That is partly why he was one of the top tight ends looking for a new home in the portal.Â
As Endries begins a new chapter in his college career, he will be tasked with replacing Gunnar Helm. The former Longhorns star was a human highlight reel last year and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 2025 NFL Draft. In his first opportunity, Endries showed he can be a more than adequate replacement.Â
Luckily for Endries, he will only have to wait six days to build on his success. He should have an easier time against a San Jose State secondary that is not on the same level as Ohio State. That should be a prime opportunity to match this performance from Week One and continue to be one of Manning’s top options.Â
