Man United’s £62.5m new boy Matheus Cunha beams with pride at birth of daughter, just hours before club are due to fly to US for pre-season tour

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha announced the birth of his second child on social media on Monday evening.

Cunha, 26, took to Instagram to share pictures of newborn daughter, Liz, as he visited his wife, Gabi, in hospital with their son.

He could be seen smiling alongside Gabi in a series of pictures as the couple celebrated the news, which came mere hours before United were due to fly to the United States for a pre-season tour.

It is currently unclear when Cunha will link up with the United squad for their matches in the US.

The Brazil international captioned the post: ‘Hello world, I’m Liz. And we are four now. I am very blessed to have you. Thanks God for everything.’

He was met with numerous congratulations on the social media platform, most notably from his compatriot and Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli

His new club team-mate Bruno Fernandes and football journalist Fabrizio Romano also passed on their well-wishes after Cunha had uploaded the post.

Further acknowledgement came from another of Cunha’s Selecao team-mates, Vinicius Jr, and United’s official club account.

It follows his recent move to Old Trafford, which saw him arrive from Wolves for £62.5million earlier this summer

He will be joined in attack by another new signing in Bryan Mbeumo, whose £71m transfer from Brentford was confirmed on Monday night.

The deal, which includes a fixed fee of £65m with a further £6m in potential add-ons.

Mbeumo has signed until June 2030 with the option for the club to extend his contract by another 12 months.

Mbeumo, 25, made it clear that he only wanted to join United despite rival interest from Tottenham, Newcastle and Arsenal.

There was also talk of a late move from Chelsea, but Stamford Bridge sources insist a bid was never made.

United are said to be unhappy with Brentford for dragging out the talks and changing their valuation – at one stage raising their demand to £70m plus £7m in add-ons.

They are also believed to have put pressure on Mbeumo to lower his wage demands so United could offer a larger transfer fee.

There is relief at Old Trafford that they have finally captured a player who has averaged an impressive 18 goal contributions per season since Brentford’s promotion to the top-flight.
