Netflix recently released the second season of its hit show Quarterback, where Kirk Cousins is featured for the second time. The first time, it was as the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings. This time around, Cousins was going through his first season with the Atlanta Falcons, which actually resulted in him losing his starting job to rookie first-round pick Michael Penix Jr.
Nevertheless, it made for some great television as fans got more insight into a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback going through the twilight of his career. Yet, one common theme that shone through, whether it was from him, his wife Julie, or one of his sons, is that the Cousins family misses living in Minnesota.
“Certainly, if I had that information around free agency, it would’ve affected my decision”, Cousins said. “I had no reason to leave Minnesota, with how much we loved it there, if both teams were going to be drafting a quarterback high.”
Recently, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski tossed out four new landing spots for Cousins, should the Falcons reconsider trade offers. Included among that group was, to no surprise, the Vikings.
If the Falcons want to shed a portion of Cousins’ salary and get a little something in return, a reunion in Minnesota makes a lot of sense for a team that finished 14-3 a year ago and isn’t looking to take a step back, even with a young quarterback as the plan moving forward.
Bleacher Report on Kirk Cousins reunion with Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are ready to move forward with J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback, Sam Howell as their backup, and Brett Rypien as the insightful third-string QB capable of helping in the quarterback room.
However, if the Vikings get through preseason and aren’t entirely confident in what they have leading their QB room, then a trade for Cousins shouldn’t be off the table. It also helps that Kevin O’Connell and Cousins seemed to enjoy such a strong bond during their time together in Minnesota.
While a Cousins reunion in Minnesota may be the best result for the soon-to-be 37-year-old QB, the Vikings hope they don’t need to break the glass in case of emergency.
