Moment phone thieves are arrested with £100,000 haul of Apple watches and 100 iPhones plus a machete just minutes after they raided West End store

Around 100 iPhones with an estimated value of £100,000 were found in the back of a car within minutes of a burglary at an O2 store in London.

The stolen goods were located in a car stopped by officers, where a number of Apple watches and a large machete were also found.

Three men wearing balaclavas reportedly entered the store in the West End on Thursday before the raid took place.

Police bodycam footage shows one man getting arrested on a nearby street as he his told he ‘matches a description of males who have gone into an O2 store and stolen some phones’.

A stash of iPhones can then be seen in the footwell of the back seat of a car, which was pulled over by police on a nearby street.

An officer continues to pull out several iPhones from a bag and throws them onto the growing pile.

The footage also shows a large black machete being recovered from the car.

Officers were called at 7.17pm and arrested three men aged 25, 24 and 18, on suspicion of aggravated burglary and taken into custody, where they remain.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, responsible for policing in Camden, said: ‘We know people are concerned about crime in the West End and these arrests are just one example of the hard work officers are doing every day to proactively target offenders and make the area safer.

‘We’re working closely with businesses to focus on tackling the crimes that cause a misery to the lives of their staff, as well as residents and visitors.

‘Across London we’re arresting 1,000s more criminals each month, neighbourhood crime is down 19 per cent and we’ve solved 163 per cent more shoplifting cases this year.

‘Through precise community crimefighting we will continue to focus our resources and bear down on prolific offenders and criminal gangs.’

Last month, 10 men were arrested as part of a separate investigation into robberies at phone shops in London and across the south of England.

Detectives identified an organised crime group believed to be behind 13 robberies between February and early June.
