WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The Watertown Red and Black hit the road Saturday night looking to snap their 2-game losing streak against Ithaca.
With the Red and Black down 24-22 with 13 seconds left, Eric Beyler drilled a 25-yard field goal to give the Red and Black a 25-24 lead, which would turn out to be your final.
The win improved the Red and Black record to 3-2 on the season and gave Watertown a big win in the Northeastern Football Alliances AA division.
“We’re down on the 12-yard line, and I said field goal time. Everybody is going we got one more play, one more play. I said this will be the play that ices the game for us. We’re gonna kick the field goal. Sure enough, Beyler went in and saved the game for us. Field goals are everything in every game from the pros on down through. Eric iced the game for us,” said George Ashcraft.
Earlier this month, USA Lacrosse announced that South Jeff senior Chloe Elmer was one of 6 Section 3 girls lacrosse players to earn All-American honors.
Elmer was a draw control specialist and a defender for the Lady Spartans, recording 244 draw controls last season and 421 for her career.
Elmer is a key reason for South Jeff’s 19-2 record and the team’s run to the state final 4 for a 2nd straight year.
“Yeah, it’s always something I’ve looked forward to all through growing up in the South Jeff program. There have been multiple before me, and it’s really exciting to be a part of this group of individuals,” said Chloe Elmer.
“Chloe Elmer, I believe, is the 8th All-American we’ve had at South Jefferson. Following in the footsteps of some absolutely great players we’ve had here. All of which have taken initiative on their own to do the things that they need to do without coaching, without teammates. It’s just studying the game, being a well-rounded player, doing the ins and outs of the skill set that they are good at. Providing that opportunity for them to be successful has been just a tremendous honor of mine,” said Jen Williams.
