C.J. Stroud on OSU vs Texas
Buckeye alum C.J. Stroud shares why Ohio State will beat Texas again this weekend after taking them down in the Cotton Bowl last season.
Sports Seriously
Ohio State football fans will find out about their 2025 team quickly this season, as the Buckeyes host No. 1 Texas in Week 1.
The No. 2 Buckeyes, coming off a national championship win, will deploy a young quarterback in redshirt freshman Julian Sayin, who’s making his first collegiate start against the Longhorns. Texas’ last two games have been against Ohio State, as the Buckeyes beat the Longhorns in the College Football Playoff semifinals last season.
Ohio State also has the pleasure of hosting Arch Manning, who’s entering his first season as Texas’ full-time starter after sitting behind Quinn Ewers the past two seasons. Manning has huge expectations in 2025, especially given his last name and his five-star status as a high school recruit.
Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline will also call plays for the first time at Ohio State against Texas.

Ohio State vs Texas predictions
Bill Rabinowitz, Columbus Dispatch: Ohio State 31, Texas 28
“This is a real toss-up in a highly anticipated showdown. Both teams are breaking in new quarterbacks − Julian Sayin for Ohio State and Arch Manning for Texas − after losing much of the core from their CFP teams. Home-field advantage could be key in this one.”
- John Leuzzi, USA TODAY Sports: Texas 24, Ohio State 21
“Texas went into Big Ten country last year and beat Michigan at Michigan Stadium. The same will happen on Saturday at Ohio Stadium, but the score won’t be as lopsided. Arch Manning will lead the Longhorns on a key fourth-quarter drive to set up his first signature win with Texas.”
