The Carolina Panthers have figured something out for wide receiver Hunter Renfrow. Their resolution, however, has not come under the greatest of circumstances.
After being released during the initial 53-man roster cutdown this past week, Renfrow agreed to terms on a second deal with the Panthers on Saturday. He’ll likely take the spot now left vacant by fellow wideout Jalen Coker, who is expected to be placed on injured reserve due to a quad injury he sustained during Thursday’s practice.
Shortly before that practice, Panthers president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan spoke about the possibility of bringing Renfrow back.
“I was even texting with him last night, I told him I want him back here,” Morgan told reporters. “I talked to his agent, I talked to him. We’re in constant communication. Nothing’s imminent, but we’re going to stay in contact with him, and we’ll try to figure something out to bring him back here.”
Renfrow, who missed the entire 2024 campaign due to ulcerative colitis, may take over the slot role for the Carolina offense. Coker, following Wednesday’s trade of Adam Thielen, was projected to start from the inside.
If placed on injured reserve, Coker would be out for at least the first four games of the regular season.
