Replay from Aggies’ Week 1 win

COLLEGE STATION — As season openers go, Saturday night’s 42-24 win over UTSA worked out just fine for Texas A&M football, which was shocked by a lightning-quick UTSA touchdown early in the second half but ended up pouring it on the Roadrunners in a 42-17 victory at Kyle Field.

Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed passed for 289 yards and four touchdowns and new wide receiver KC Concepcion had three catches for 72 yards and a touchdown and also returned a punt 80 yards for another score as the Aggies put up 401 yards of total offense, didn’t commit a turnover and looked solid defensively against UTSA.

3:22, Q4 – Aggies are in cruise mode

Remember that long UTSA touchdown run? That seems like a long time ago, though Robert Henry Jr. did carry that 75-yard scamper toward a 172-yard night. But the Aggies have scored 21 unanswered points and have backup quarterback Miles O’Neill mopping things up. The redshirt freshman completed one of his two attempts and both teams have traded punts since EJ Smith’s score.

Texas A&M vs UTSA predictions

Tony Catalina: Texas A&M 30, UTSA 10. A&M in front of its home crowd in Week 1 will be too much for UTSA to handle. Expect a first-quarter acclimation period as both teams work back from a long offseason, but the Aggies should be able to pull away convincingly to start the season 1-0.

Cedric Golden: Texas A&M 35, UTSA 20. The Aggies have been talking all summer about Marcel Reed’s massive improvement. We get a nice taste in an opening win.
