When you reach the level of stardom that Rory McIlroy has in the game of golf, just about everything you do becomes a story. Whether it’s a slight tweak in his swing, a skipped press availability, or something as simple as an altered schedule on the driving range, people are going to talk.

So when it comes to a change to physical appearance, fans are certainly going to discuss.

This week at the Genesis Scottish Open, the final PGA Tour event before The Open Championship, McIlroy turned some heads when he showed up with a new look, rocking a buzz cut rather than his normal crew cut.

Big deal? Definitely not. Sometimes you just need to change things up, and in the heat of the summer, who could blame McIlroy for taking a #3 trimmer and trimming things up. Is it something that he will be asked about after his practice round — should he decide to meet with media members — this week, though? Absolutely.

Despite his recent struggles on the course — McIlroy has a T47, a missed cut, and a T19 in three of his last four starts — Rory is considered one of the favorites this week at the Genesis, carrying +850 odds to win, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. That is second, behind only Scottie Scheffler (+360).

Looking forward a week, The Open will have McIlory in the news once again, as it’s taking place at Royal Portrush, near where he grew up. He is currently has the second-highest odds to win that tournament at +750, again behind only Scheffler, who is the favorite at +380.
