Nebraska football kicked off its season with a wild opening game. Both sides of the football held their own for the Huskers, as they were able to fend off the Cincinnati Bearcats by a 20-17 score.
Dylan Raiola threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, completing 78.6% of his passes. He took what the Bearcats‘ defense gave him and was able to lead the Huskers down the field on several occasions.
The play of Emmett Johnson really helped stabilize the rushing attack. He had 25 carries for just over 100 yards on the night, as he powered his way through the Bearcats’ defense.
The defense held its own, struggling in the second half after having a productive first half. All told, they gave up 271 total yards. The play of Malcolm Hartzog Jr. saved the day, as a game-winning interception gave the Huskers their first win of the season.
The Huskers will now prepare for their home opener. They host the Akron Zips at Memorial Stadium for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday, September 6.
Social media was on fire after the Huskers’ victory. Some were impressed with the win, while others were a bit cautious. Either way, the world was buzzing about the Big Red.
