Kalen DeBoer reacts to Alabama’s shocking 31–17 loss to FSU
Alabama football hasn’t had the best start to its 2025 season.
The No. 8-ranked Crimson Tide were upset on the road by unranked Florida State, who went 2-10 last season, on Saturday, Aug. 30. It’s one of multiple upsets to unranked opponents for second-year coach Kalen DeBoer at Alabama thus far, as the Crimson Tide lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma — two 6-7 teams — last year.
The Crimson Tide also lost to unranked Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl to finish 9-4 in 2024.
New starting quarterback Ty Simpson and Alabama were mostly shut down by a Florida State defense 86th nationally in total defense last season.
Conversely, Florida State — led by new quarterback Tommy Castellanos, former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and numerous transfers — appears to be much improved from a devastating 2024 season. Things are trending up for the Seminoles, while Alabama is certainly trending down with the loss.
Here’s how social media is reacting to Alabama’s rough showing against Florida State on Saturday, Aug. 30:
