LANSING — Want to make a fast trip to see the Michigan State Spartans take on the Golden Gophers in Minnesota in November?

Just pop over to the Capital Region International Airport in Lansing, which is providing a special one-time flight directly to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for football fans.

It is not a new daily route, but the Lansing flight aligns with the football game scheduled for Nov. 1 against the University of Minnesota, leaving Lansing on Friday, Oct. 31, and returning from the Twin Cities on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Delta round trip tickets are running for $373 to $1,129, according to the Delta website.

Katherine Japinga, a spokesperson for the airport, said Delta offered additional college football flights this year, including one for the Spartan-Gophers game.

She said Lansing offered a regular flight to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport prior to the pandemic, when many routes nationwide were cut.

There are more than 40 one-off football game flights this year through Delta, with 25 cities covered. Most of the flights leave on a Friday and come back on a Sunday, perfect for catching a Saturday game.

The flights this year include back-to-back University of Michigan flights. There is an outgoing, round trip flight, taking University of Michigan fans from Detroit Metro Airport to Los Angeles International Airport, for the Wolverines’ Oct. 11 game against University of Southern California as well as an incoming, round trip flight from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to DTW for U-M’s Oct. 18 game with the University of Washington.

Japinga said there are no other football game flights from Lansing planned this year but there could be fan-arranged charter flights as in previous years, such as when MSU went to the Rose Bowl in 2014.

Unlike fan-launched charters, the Delta football flights are added to the regular schedule, so anyone can book the Delta game day flights through the typical ways, as long as seats remain, Japinga said.
