A former security guard at the US Embassy in Oslo, Norway, has been charged with spying for Russia and Iran, national broadcaster NRK reported, citing the national prosecutor’s office in the NATO ally.
The Norwegian man is accused of giving detailed information on embassy employees, diplomats, and their families, as well as floor plans of the embassy, safety practices, photos of the facilities, and visitors to Russian and Iranian handlers.
Prosecutors said in their indictment that the man’s alleged actions increased the risk for the individuals whose information he shared, for the embassy, and American security interests. The handlers paid him in bitcoin and euros, the indictment said.
The accused man denies guilt, NRK reported.
Newsweek has contacted the press office of the Norwegian Director of Public Prosecutions for comment.
