Back on Monday of this week, LSU coach Brian Kelly talked about the press conference he wanted to have after the Clemson game.
Compete, composure and confidence were the three words that really stuck from that statement on Monday and were repeated again on Saturday night in the minutes after LSU’s thrilling 17-10 victory over Clemson to open the 2025 season.
“The first thing you need to have when you go on the road to play a top-five team is confidence and the belief that you can do what you can do. Our guys believed they were gonna win the game and they did,” Kelly said.
“The next thing you have is culture. We had some mistakes early on but our guys composed themselves and had great composure. The third thing is you gotta compete and go to the next one. To me that’s it. They competed every single play right to the end on fourth down.”
With the 1-0 start the group has worked so hard for now in its back pocket, all of the sudden these season long goals LSU has become all the more attainable. Here were our three big takeaways from Saturday night’s win.
Harold Perkins was a STAR
Perkins played like his position on Saturday night at Clemson. There are about five different defensive players you could give the game ball too and you wouldn’t get very much push back from this reporter. But in a game full of strong performances, Perkins stood above the rest.
The stat sheet is very good but doesn’t come close to telling the whole story of Perkins’ effect on this game. He finished with five tackles, a sack, two quarterback hurries and 1.5 tackles for loss but did so much more.
