Top picks for Saturday 7/5/25

Blake Krass makes his MLB fantasy baseball DraftKings Pick6 selections for the Saturday slate.

The 2025 MLB season is heating up. There are far more ways to get involved in the action than just via traditional betting. One of the more unique features on DraftKings this year is Pick6 Fantasy Baseball!

Here are my top Pick6 plays for today’s MLB slate.

Shohei Ohtani More Than 1.5 Strikeouts Thrown (Promo Pick)

Shohei Ohtani is set to make his fourth pitching appearance of the season on Saturday night. After taking the entire 2024 season off from pitching, Ohtani is slowly ramping up his stamina on the mound. He threw just one inning in each of his first two starts, then threw two innings in his second start. For Ohtani’s 31st birthday today, DraftKings Pick6 is boosting the payout from 0.7x to 1x on Ohtani to throw more than 1.5 strikeouts. Ohtani threw 101.7 MPH in his last start, the fastest of his MLB career. He should continue to ramp up, pitching at least two innings against the Astros. He should be able to strike out at least two Houston batters for his birthday start.

Will Smith More Than 1.5 Total Bases

Will Smith has been one of the best batters in baseball this season. He ranks third in baseball in batting average and fourth in OPS. His splits against lefties have also been fantastic. He ranks fourth in the MLB in OPS and wRC+ against left-handed batters this season. Tonight, he will be facing Framber Valdez and the Astros at Dodger Stadium. Smith has been much better at Dodger Stadium this season. He is batting .372 with a 1.106 OPS at home this season. Smith has hit a home run in three of his past four games and should keep his hot streak going with two or more total bases in this game.

Pete Crow-Armstrong Less Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs

Pete Crow-Armstrong has had a phenomenal season for the Cubs. He is an NL All-Star starter and has put up incredible numbers at the plate. However, he has struggled massively against left-handed pitching. He has a .307 batting average against righties, but a .196 batting average against lefties. He has hit only five of his 23 home runs and racked up 18 of his 66 RBIs against left-handed pitchers this season. Today, he is facing the left-handed Matthew Liberatore. Liberatore is having a solid season for the Cardinals, with a 3.70 ERA through 16 starts. He has been really sharp over his last three starts, with a 1.89 ERA and at least six innings of work in each of them. He should be able to shut down Crow-Armstrong, like most lefties have done this season, and keep him under this number.

Fernando Tatis Jr. Less Than 7.5 Batter Fantasy Points

Fernando Tatis Jr. is another player having a great season at the plate overall but struggling against lefties. Tatis has a 121 OPS+ and has scored the eighth-most runs in baseball this season. However, he has cooled off over the past couple of weeks. Over his last 12 games, he is batting .222, and he has just one extra-base hit in his past six games. Against left-handed pitching this season, Tatis is batting .186 with a .267 SLG. He has hit just one of his 15 home runs and driven in just five of his 38 RBIs against lefties this season. While he isn’t an ace by any means, Patrick Corbin is having his best season in years. His current ERA of 4.26 is lower than any season-long ERA he has posted since 2019. He should be able to contain Tatis and keep him from generating any runs or extra-base hits. That should be enough to keep him under 7.5 batter fantasy points.

Frankie Montas More Than 4.5 Strikeouts Thrown

Frankie Montas has made two starts for the Mets so far this season. He started the season on IL and ramped up in the minor leagues before making his debut two weeks ago. Montas had a great first start for the Mets, throwing five scoreless innings against the Braves. However, in his second start, he got shelled for six runs in four innings against the Pirates. This is indicative of Montas’ career. Montas has great stuff and has always been a high-strikeout pitcher with the capability of shutting down lineups. However, he is also capable of blow-ups where he gives up runs in bunches. Despite not going longer than five innings in either start and really struggling in one of the starts, Montas has hit five strikeouts in both of those starts. He will be back at Citi Field, where he had his first brilliant start against the Braves. He has always been a better pitcher at home in his career, with a 3.62 home ERA compared to a 4.65 ERA on the road. It should be a better effort from Montas in this game and he should strike out five batters for the third straight game.
