Syracuse, N.Y. —Syracuse football landed its first five-star commitment in 24 years on Saturday night.
That fact alone almost fully demonstrates the impact of Miami Northwestern wide receiver Calvin Russell’s commitment to SU’s Class of 2026.
“I can’t put enough emphasis on how much of a win this is for Syracuse,” syracuse.com’s SU football reporter Javon Edmonds said. “You showed you could hang with the big boys today.”
“Syracuse now has a head coach that can run with anybody in recruiting in college football,” syracuse.com columnist Brent Axe said.
There was more to discuss following Russell’s commitment on the latest episode of the “Syracuse Sports” podcast.
Axe and Edmonds talked about Russell’s potential impact on Orange basketball in addition to football, how Fran Brown’s relationship with Russell helped the commitment get over the finish line and how his commitment could lead to more five-star prospects coming to Syracuse.
